From the very beginning he suffers from a sense of isolation and alienation since he is confined to live on his own in a small cottage. 3)Here he learns the ways of humans but is soon rejected for his repulsive appearance and demoniacal corpse. 4)He therefore turns into an outcast and finally rebels against the society which had created him.5)The monster can also stands for Dr Frankenstein's double, embodying the dark side of the doctor's personality.Dr Frankenstein is the scientist who wants to overcome human limits to worm (??) the secret of creation. 6) Like the monster itself, he is alienated from society but is proud of his being different. 7) After creating the monster, he starts being haunting by its presence though their direct confrontations are few. 8) He finally rejects the creature.Unlike the gothic novels, which reached their popularity at the end of the 18th century, Frankenstein is not set in a dark castle nor does it deal with supernatural events.
